Photos from the set of the Squid Game show the actors having fun

New behind-the-scenes photos from Netflix’s latest hit series, Squid Game, show the actors smiling and having fun, in stark contrast to their character counterparts.

Squid Game premiered last month and became an instant worldwide hit, breaking Bridgerton’s audience record to become the most popular Netflix original series of all time.

The series has created countless pop culture references and even inspired real-world Squid Game-style survival tournaments since its introduction (without killing it, of course).

The series is known for its dramatic and gruesome deaths, which claimed the lives of many key characters. Most, if not all, of the game’s participants are in dire need, which is why they are willing to risk their lives to try and win the grand prize of KRW 45.6 billion (roughly $ 38.7 million).

The brutal tone of the series’ subject is in stark contrast to the reimagined childhood activities from which the series draws its inspiration. Despite the grim tone of Squid Game, the series was a lot of fun to do behind the scenes, as many behind the scenes photos show the cast and crew having fun.

Netflix’s Twitter account Geeked shared eight behind-the-scenes photographs of the cast of Squid Game having fun between shots. Characters like Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-Yeon) and Jang Deok-Su (Heo Sung-Tae) glow when looking at the camera monitors, which is a far cry from the dynamics of the series.

Take a look at the photographs below:

The images also give an idea of the scale of the production of the show. Each image features massive sets, a multitude of costumed extras, and in some cases both.

Despite the series’ relatively low budget of $ 21.4 million, the production and costume designers managed to reap a lot of profit from it. Many of the extras, many dressed in the show’s iconic guard uniforms, can be seen in the photo with Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) on a stretcher.
